Notre Dame: Hateful to the End

From Spring practice right on up to the season opener, Charlie Weis claimed he wasn't sure who was going to be his QB.

We all knew it was just clever posturing. Ok, not clever. But posturing, none the less.

We all knew that there was no way that the greatest QB guru ever to produce pretty boy QB's could possible not have an inkling as to who would be under center when the Irish began the season.

Weis is simply too sly, smart and inherently genius not have had the season mapped out and not have been beginning to mold his next great creation at QB, right?

Not just right, but righteous!

And, when the season opened, out trotted Demetrius Jones! To quote the great Marine, 'Surprise, surprise, surprise!'

Certainly no one believed that it was a game day decision. That the greatest offensive mind in all of football woke up that morning and said to himself, 'hey fat ass, if I step on the scale and I break 300 pounds...it's Jones. If I step on the scale and I'm under 3 bills, it's not.'

Nope. The greatest offensive mind in all of football prepared Jones to start. He built his game plan around Jones starting. And he outlined his season with Jones as the QB in mind.

Second quarter of the first game, the greatest offensive mind in football changed itself.

Jones to the bench. Season re-gamed. Next Saturday, new starter.

Disrespected, embarrassed and mistreated; Jones left school. Hoping to continue his career elsewhere. Quickly.

One problem.

Notre Dame now refuses to release Jones from his scholarship. That means it will cost Jones cash to go to Northern Illinois this year.

You stay classy, South Bend!

"We don't believe his departure was handled appropriately," Notre Dame athletic director Kevin White said in a statement.

In contrast, the university seems to think giving him a quarter and half then yanking him from being the starter is appropriate.

Jones, who lost his starting job after the Irish struggled and he fumbled twice, told reporters that he enrolled at Northern Illinois on Sept. 12, practiced with the Irish the next day and didn't tell the coaches what he had done.

But, can we really scold Jones for being surreptitious in his actions? He spent two years being tutored by the greatest mind in football. A mind that would not divulge who would be the starter to supposedly anyone (even the QB's) until the season started. Jones simply followed the model of communication provided to him by the great offensive genius. Don't tell anyone anything until you absolutely have to. Jones clearly is a good student and should be commended for his steadfast and accurate application of the silent communication model deftly passed on to him by his coach/instructor/offensive genius.

So, why would Notre Dame, which clearly had no future plans for Jones after his quarter and half of play, not just bid him farewell and let him get on with his life? Why the vitriol?

Clearly, it relates to Ty Willingham.

Notre Dame decided when and how the Negro coach would be deposed. Notre Dame decided exactly how they would try to manipulate and control the information as to his exile.

Jones upstaged them. He rejected them! The Negro QB didn't simply pick up a clip board and stand silently on the sidelines allowing the university to control the situation.

And now he has to pay.

He has to pay tuition at Northern Illinois this year.

A modern reminder that the release from indentured servitude comes with a price.

"Why the vitriol?"

Sir, because that is the way God wants it. ND, if you have not been reminded lately, is God's team.

Sir, Allah seems to be saying differently...at least after the first 3 weeks!

i gotta agree, again with ya.

ND should release Jiggy Jones from his scholarship.

give the scholarship to a kid that can read!

Am I to believe he will not be rescued by the United Negro College Fund, sir? A mind and that arm are terrible things to waste.

I think it's hilarious how Jones handled it. Total embarassment of the Irish. Jones has a much better chance to showcase his talent, as well as being on a winning team. If it was his idea to just up and leave, kudos to him. If not, kudos to whoever advised him.

Justice for Ty Willingham has been slow, but oh soooo sweet.

If Weis has a losing season, which is the consensus, he'll have to win the national championship in order to stay.

If Weis has to leave after the 2009 season, which is a reasonable expectation, then it's perfectly reasonable to think that the wing of the administration that doesn't give blowjobs to athletic boosters would have a perfect opportunity to wrestle back some control and add some sanity back to the relationship. The boosters had their chance, and they completely shit all over the porch.

Between what they had to pay Ty to go, and what they'll have to pay Charlie to go away, that's a lot of wasted money. And at the end of the day, money is what football at ND is all about.

'When', sir, 'when Weis has a losing season.'

Wow, in regards to the blog, I'm sorry you see everything as black or white. Too bad you can't see past that. I pray that Allah gives you the strength to overcome this shortcoming. As for Jones, from his most recent comments, I think he has learned that his actions were immature and self-serving, he let his teammates down, and he sees the error in the way he handled his transfer. I wish him the best at NIU.

Wow what an absolute idiot. Did the media tell you to write a blog claiming ND is racists. It would set a bad precedent if they let him out of his scholarship. Then it says if you suck and get benched, you can just quit the team with no repercussions.

There is not another team in the country who would let this quitter out of his scholarship but because it's ND it must be racist. Nice blog jerkweed.

"Wow what an absolute idiot. Did the media tell you to write a blog claiming ND is racists."

Sir, actually, no.

But ND's actions did.

"It would set a bad precedent if they let him out of his scholarship. Then it says if you suck and get benched, you can just quit the team with no repercussions."

Haha. Funny stuff!

Schools allow kids that quick the team out of their scholarships all the time. Do a google search and see how many do it.

So, Jones sucked? Who really sucked in this, sir?

Jones, or the man that is supposedly the greatest qb mentor of our error that prepared and CHOSE him to start. And then abandoned him for the season after less then 30 mins of game time.

Yes, Jones should have stayed!

"There is not another team in the country who would let this quitter out of his scholarship but because it's ND it must be racist. Nice blog jerkweed."

Again, do a google search. Nearly every team lets kids that no longer want to be there out of their scholarships.

The Negro QB one upped Charlie and ND.

What's a jerkweed?

nation_of_islam_sportsblog said...

"he let his teammates down"

Sir, really?

You mean that Weis yanking him as the starter after less than one half of play, and replacing him the next week is what was best?

No, Weis let the team down. Jones only got the message he was not wanted and left.

Let's not pretend.

oh great.

some of the blind golden domers found there way here.

there is NOTHING worse than a ND fan who is confronted by the truth. they don't know how to handle it.

tdevito115 said...

He let his team down by not showing up on the bus for the Michigan game. The had designed, and practiced all week an installment of plays for Jones to run against Michigan, but he didn't show.

Schools let kids out, but they do so after the student approaches the schools administration with their request to transfer, not when the administration and coaching staff learn about the transfer through the media. After finally approaching the university Jones has received hi release.

On a side not NIU does not have an ahtletic scholarship to give Jones this year.

I am disappointed that he left and didn't stay and compete and fight for the starting roll. Since, he was more than likely slotted to get playing time against Michigan, it looks like he would have had his opportunity to show some improvement.

Obviously this blog and the comments here are reactions by parties who's only interest in the matter is on the topic of Race. While my interests lie in the community of my alma mader.

Sir, and conversely...your interest and blind allegiance to your 'alma mader' precludes you from the realities of the situation.

That is most unfortunate.

you mean your interests are only in making excuses for your alma mater.

do you not see how funny that is?

YOU scold this blog for having a bias...and think YOUR bias as an alum doesn't prevent YOU from being objective??? go back to dear notre dame and take a logics class!

Is an alma mader part of the Sith?

NOIS, you should know that ND can't possibly be prejudiced.

They don't do anything wrong there. Never ever!

Jones should have stayed.

Forget the games Weis played with not telling the kids who was gonna start.

Forget that Weis abandoned him after a few early mistakes. And that the LINE wasn't even playing football.

Forget it all.

Jones should be expected to stay no matter what.

This is NOTRE DAME we're talking about.

They ruled college football up until 1988, by god!

Racism is a two way street and the racial and religious hate coming from this board is horrible.

Teams do let kids out of scholarships all the time. But not so often when the kid quits the way he did and only because he got benched.

There are idiots and racists in every race and religion out there and this blog has proven that.

tdevito115 said...

I never said Jones should have stayed, he has his opportunities and he chose another. It's nice to have another skilled dedicated player on the team, but if not so be it.

Of course the University makes mistakes and has its issues, the administration, faculty, community, are all as fallable as anyone else.

Excuses, I further detailed the current situation to expand on the blogs summary. I thought it would be appropriate to share some more of the applicable information.

Forgive me for scolding you. That was disrespectful and my mistake.

My bias as an alumn is that the team stops playing so poorly and we win on a consistant basis. But that subject will take me far off topic.

"Racism is a two way street and the racial and religious hate coming from this board is horrible."

the only racism and religious hate here is perpetuated by ND and their crusading fans.

pointing out the poor treatment of Ty and the poor treatment of Jones is racist of this blog to do?

what should they do, just shutup and take it because the glorious catholics of ND are above reproach?

YOU brought the racism here, Mike. YOU did.

nation_of_islam_sportsblog said...

Sir, based on their performance so far...it will take you VERY far away...

look, ND has run it's course. they aren't a factor on the national scene anymore. the public is tired of them. they don't win. they don't beat anybody any good. and they haven't been a factor for almost 20 years.

bye bye ND...the ratings are falling. the backlash is present.

bye bye.

No .. I pretty sure the blog brought racism here. Ty was fired because he gave up on recruiting and had two crappy seasons in a row.

If Charlie gives up on recruiting and has two crappy seasons in a row he will be fired also.

Jones hasn't yet been let out of his scholarship (he probably will be if NIU comes up with an open schollie) because of the way he quit the team. End of story. Neither case has anything to do with the color of their skin. Only an idiot would think it did.

nation_of_islam_sportsblog said...

"No .. I pretty sure the blog brought racism here. Ty was fired because he gave up on recruiting and had two crappy seasons in a row."

Sir, gave up on recruiting????

WHO BROUGHT IN THE PLAYERS THAT WEIS WON WITH THE PAST TWO SEASONS????

You must be joking?

Additionally, 3 QB's have transferred from the guru's program the past two years.

And onlhy 7 seven players from the 16 that Ty brought in his last year remain.

Darius left early, which rarely happens at ND.

Clearly, SOMETHING is going on and, despite the rosey picture you paint...THE PROGRAM IS NOT STABLE UNDER WEIS.

And, again, your blind allegiance to touchdown jesus prevents you from seeing the truth about the program you genuflect to...

If kids were running away from the program under TY, you people would be blaming HIM...but they run away in unprecedented numbers from Weis....and what...you blame the kids?

LOL.

I believe ND football must be a cult.

You people are brainwashed.

Wake up, it isn't 1988 anymore!

YOU DON'T MATTER!

You may as well be Northwestern.

Good school. Had a strong program 50 years ago.

Yup. You people are Northwestern.

Now, scamper off and lose to the service academies.

Another thing is at Notre Dame we referred to them as Coach Willingham and Demetrius Jones.

Funny that it is the NOI blog that refers to them as Negro coach and Negro QB.

Hmmm who brought race into the issue.

Sir, your ineptitude in debate is astounding.

The fact that you refrain from paying them the respect of identifying their race...yet feel that it is fine and dandy to differentiate that race in how you treat them is what brings race into it.

And, I am pretty sure that all the message boards that were demanding that Willingham be fired weren't referring to him as "coach Willingham".

Get your head out of your ass.

No one buys into the ND mystique any longer.

And, your administration has demonstrated by their ACTIONS how they feel about Negroes.

Empty words espoused on ND's behalf by brainwashed subway alumns mean nothing.

ND's actions tell the story.

Take your racist views and disrespect for Negro-dom somewhere else.

We won't entertain them here.

We leave bias at the door and only care about reality.

Reality is something ND has refused to face for the past 20 years.

You being a ND'er...obviously aren't in touch with reality.

The world isn't black and white.

YOU and ND need to learn that.

Malcom Hex said...

Right on NOIS!

This dude is a straight up, card carrying RACIST!

His blind love for the Fighting Irish allows him to justify the hatred that ND has shown for blacks...and you know what, i could see it if ND was a WINNING program...but, to be blind to the racism while the program is losing?

obviously this mike guy hates blacks.

its a shame

uncommon sense said...

oh...cool!

run Ty out of town, then give the big fat guy a huge extension because he won with TY'S players...and NOW, when big fat is getting his ass handed to him...say TY left the cupboard bare???

YOU FUCKERS JUST HAD TWO BCS SEASONS WITH TY'S PLAYERS!!!!

AND...pretend that "hey we called him COACH TY" covers up the fact that if he was WHITE he would have been given more time???

The whole country is going to celebrate when NAVY beats you!!!

we are sick of your racism!

NO I'm not dense .. everything the racists on this site say is dense, stupid and totally ignorant.

It is people like you that set the race back hundreds of years. Sad, pathetic and always looking for an excuse. Too afraid to look in the mirror and realize what that the fact you are a loser has nothing to do with race.

Sir, your ingenius response...akin to the old kindergarten favorite of 'i'm not a poopy head, you are'...is all the evidence required to diagnose the unusual thickness of your skull.

"Too afraid to look in the mirror and realize what that the fact you are a loser has nothing to do with race."

Sir, regardless of who is the loser and who is not....until YOU can look in the mirror and accept that ND has treated their Negro coach and Negro player differently...well, until then...we are ALL losers.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be thrilled with ND's season thus far.
