Yankees: Who Will Replace Torre?

So far, the Steinbrenner off spring have interviewed Joe Girardi and Don Mattingly as they search to find a replacement for, and repair the torn apart looker room left behind by Joe Torre.

We've all seen the rumor that part of the reason Torre was tendered an unacceptable return offer was because of the information that Gary Sheffield courageously brought to the media earlier this year. Information that would seem to be accurate. The post season is won by teams with strong and unified clubhouses. The Yankees lost. Again.

Clearly, the first order of business for the Yankees is to repair the damage and disunity left in the wake of the Torre Regime.

It would seem that the Yankees would need to make a break from the Torre 'family tree' if they hope to achieve the greatness they did in the earlier Torre years. The years before his systematic institution of clubhouse apartheid turned the Yankees into post season patsies.

We believe that the interviews of Girardi and Mattingly are simply window dressing.

Next up on the interview carousel is Tony Pena. Now, certainly, the melanin rich Pena might bring the ability to unite the clubhouse. Unfortunately, his connection to the Torre system of rule greatly hinders his credibility with the players hoping for a manager that will treat them with equality.

Certainly, most of the Yankees in the clubhouse are rooting for the Steinbrenners to interview Met's manager Willie Randolph. Randolph is a remnant of the early, successful and unified Torre years. A reminder of how the clubhouse used to be unified. Before Torre erected those walls of division. Walls that only Gary Sheffield has had the courage to try to knock down.

The only troubling aspect of a Randolph hire would be that the Mets' collapse at the end of this season will be brought up by detractors who are against a Negro manager of MLB's flagship organization. Certainly, they won't mention that the on field leader of the team was David Wright, or that most of the blame should be sent his way.

While all these candidates certainly have the technical knowledge and skills to be the Yankee skipper; we believe that Yankee's ownership has no choice but to look outside the Yankee family for a new manager.

The only logical choice is Dusty Baker.

Baker managed organization with nowhere near the payrolls and resources the Yankees have. And he made them contenders.

Certainly, Baker's ability to make Barry Bonds feel special in San Francisco will resonate with the Negro players on the Yankees. We expect his first move will be to provide them with leather recliners and larger lockers and to let them institute their own schedules.

This would be a significant first step in healing the broken and dysfunctional locker room family that Torre has left behind.

Dusty Baker.

The reasonable solution to the problem. And the key to bringing a ticker tape parade back to NYC.

edit- [yes, we know that Dusty is 'in' Cincy right now. But, Frank Robinson is just too old for the Yankees job. So Dusty is the only reasonable choice left.]

Why not Sheff himself? The doctor who first diagnosed the problem might also have the cure.

Failing that, Oscar Gamble, who can bring his afro along as bench coach.

sheff seems like he really enjoys playing the game...he probably isn't ready to hang it up yet. he just loves the game.

Willie 'Pops' Stargel can repair the ruined club house.

I have seen the light NOIS you bring up alot of solid points. Can I suggest Rickey Henderson for the job? He is a former yankee and surely would bring unity to the clubhouse. During the tense post season games he would keep the team loose with the card games in the clubhouse he made famous while a player. Also look how well the mets played after he became a coach for them at midseason. He would be the only logical choice as the yankees choose the right thing over winning.
And David Wright is definetly to blame for the mets collapse. The star player on a losing team should always be blamed for a teams failures. Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard were clearly the reasons the Phillies were so easily disposed of in the postseason and deserve all the blame there as well. As does CC Sabathia for the collapse of the Indians...excellent logic again NOIS.

No the regular season doesnt count..read the post...the yankees lost again because they lost in the postseason...so although the phillies had the benefit of catching a team so poorly managed in the regular season..they choked out in three games once they got under the white lights of coors field...and as the stars of the team rollins and howard are responsible just like david wright was.

i notice you had no defense for cc sabathia who got bitch slapped by the melanin challenged josh beckett.

no, the according to the post the yankees lost because of a divided clubhouse.

you need help.

i'm surprised you got that far in his comment!

the man lives a life of tit-for-tat...'if it's david wright's fault it must be jimmy rollins fault too'....LOL...as if there is some congruity in the situations, right????

LOL...the post was about the yankees and mentioned the Mets because of Randolph....how he jumps to the Phils and Rockies and Indians and Sox....I have no idea. They have NOTHING to do with what NOIS was talking about.

But, i guess we should be used to his comments being completely off topic by now.

Steven A's Cheese Doodles said...

that's the problem.

he has no clue what nois IS talking about. he turns everything into race. everything. man, it's pathetic.

not one comment thread goes by without censored trying to turn it into a race war.

there is more to life than black and white, man! DAMN!

agreed. it is really getting old how he spins everything nois writes into some sort of racial thing.

this is a sportsblog, for christ sake!

yea, well, check out the soccer coach thread. he somehow decided that NOIS was saying the soccer coach was fired because he started a black goalie.

WTF? how did he come up with that one?

it's time nois banned him.

If Travis Hafner could hit a beach ball then Beckett would be the one getting bitch slapped.

Cant you guys read..i was agreeing with NOIS all the way...when did i even bring up race here..i said i saw the light. I was helping NOIS, he said the mets failure could be traced to their on field leader and not their manager...i just backed up his cause by giving more solid examples....geez you guys are just out for blood. Rollins, Howard, Sabathia all on field leaders for teams that lost in embarrassing fashion...they are at fault like david wright is....i am defending the skills of willie randolph, that is how it relates to the post. If winning is no longer the top priority for the yankees as NOIS says then willie is the clear choice. I told you I am done with racial postings and I have stuck to it here.

If Travis Hafner could hit a beach ball then Beckett would be the one getting bitch slapped.

When your starting pitcher doesnt display the skills or courage to pitch in a big game and your team falls way behind then hitters start to press a bit...that is what happened to hafner and the man to blame is clearly CC Sabathia.

yea, well, check out the soccer coach thread. he somehow decided that NOIS was saying the soccer coach was fired because he started a black goalie.

my only theory was the team probably didnt play as well because they knew they had an inferior goalie starting..when teams play knowing any one mistake will cost them the game they tend to play alot worse...so the team lost faith in the coach because his decision making was clearly not in the best interest of the team.

if only that were you only theory.

Henry the 8th said...

" he said the mets failure could be traced to their on field leader and not their manager..."

and that is true...in the Mets' case.

The circumstances were completely different in the other cases.

I realize you have a limited intellect, but you can't just say "oh, well if it effected the Mets a certain way, it effected every team the same way."....the mets collapse was due to Wrights poor performance over the last 10 or so games of the season...the other things you sited were all playoff series...not a few weeks of regular season action...and they were all attributeable to poor managerial decisions.

you gotta get out of this habit of just stereotyping and lumping everything together.

like...ND sucks this year because Charlie Weis has done a lousy job developing talent...talent that was rated pretty highly when it came aboard....would you go and say that since Duke sucks that it is for the same reason? No, because Duke's recruiting classes usually don't bring in much talent to begin with....

see how this works?

it's called root cause analysis. companies use it to figure out their deficiencies...they don't just say oh, the same thing must be the cause of everything that goes wrong.

now, go practice.

Mack Power said...

Wow. Talk about a glutton for punishment.

What do ND and duke have to do with this post about baseball...geez stick to topic...my points all related to NOIS topic...when a top team leader fails he must be the one blamed. CC Sabathia was the only reason the indians arent in the world series (2 losses in a seven game series and a sky high ERA). Nobody else is to blame except him. Same with Rollins and Howards sub par performances against the rockies ...again to support NOIS (not that he needs the support because his posts speak volumes by themselves)...these examples do indeed give further proof to NOIS' point on this post...that on field leaders and not managers are solely responsible for the entire teams success or in the case of the players mentioned...failures. Maybe if you read NOIS' posts more carefully you would learn something.

censored said...

Playoff failure counts just the same...i mean look at joe torre...his team held together during the regular season to make the playoffs but then..BOOM..all the racial tension he caused by his mistreatment of minority players blew up in the ALDS and cost him his job. So clearly the only measure is of how a team's season ends not at what point it ends.

I said i have seen the light...i thought NOIS was all about redemption...i merely commented and agreed with most of what NOIS wrote in this post...i never brought up race....i dont know what you were reading that would lead you to believe I had any racial intentions with my comments...i mean unless you were somehow trying to read more into what i was writing then was actually there and i dont know why you would do that unless everything just has to be about race with you.
