University of Florida: Is UF An Educational Institution?

Channing Crowder, a linebacker for the Miami Dolphins attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship.

Now, Crowder left early for the NFL, but did spend a few years on campus as a student.

As a scholarship athlete, the deal usually is that in return for his participation in athletics, Crowder would receive the very best education that UF has to offer.

The Dolphins will be playing in London this week.

“I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries,” Crowder said. “I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that.

You read that correctly. Mr. Crowder, during the course of his studies at UF learned that Italy looks like a boot. But can't read a map.

“I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name.”

Yes folks, again, you read that correctly.

Channing Crowder confessed today he didn’t know until Tuesday that people spoke English in London.

The University of Florida must be very proud of their connection to Crowder's development.

We reject the notion that Crowder was joking.

This is a clear indictment of UF's educational system and their practice of luring Negro athletes onto campus with the promise of a good education in return for their services. And then releasing them into the world without the tools to so much as read a map.

While Crowder may appear the fool for making these statements, we applaud him for speaking up and having the courage to expose this calculated system of userage employed by UF.

Excellent points once again...it is clear that due to hundreds of years of his ancestors being subjected to slavery and the like that it would be impossible for Crowder to develop a sense of humor...what could possibly be amusing in his life. Fame and a high six figure salary are surely not enough to compensate for those emotional scars. These college administrators are just cruel in giving the opportunity for a free education....just saying welcome is not enough...they need to physically force these players to study..i mean, after all these years of oppression and being held back, you cant just expect a guy to go to college and be self-motivated...that is racist talk.

To be fair, he only earned the equivalent of an associates degree. I know many people with that equivalent who don't know that Italy is indeed shaped like a boot.

Enforcing current academic standards and adding oversight means some athletes will be kicked off teams during the transition. The upside is that the odds of hearing statements like Crowder's should decrease.

Doing this would affect the fencing team, the women's cross country team, men's swimming team, etc as much as it would the men's football team. But the football team is much more high profile. As well as much more Negro.

Therein lies the rub. As Negro athletes are kicked off teams, the reflex is to say they were kicked off due to racism. Not because the athlete was as dumb as a post and needed another year of high school, but because he was Negro.

No one will notice the number of athletes of other races being kicked off lower profile teams. If so, the likely response will be because the athlete was as thick as quickening concrete.

But at the end of the exercise, we get smarter athletes, better students, and more successful adults.

Is there the discipline to not play the race card in a situation like this?

but, if the majority of athletes kicked off are black, then it is racist...right? right? that's how you people operate, correct?

aren't 'disciplined' and 'black' mutually exclusive terms?

Sir, as an associate of UF graduates I will say in their defense that they spend a lot of time staring at smoking hot girls' asses and being Tazed by campus police.

Football, basketball, and track I would say is the home of NEGRO DOMINATION.

I think that the total number of athletes on those teams would still be a minority compared to the total number of athletes on the rest of the teams. There's also a mix of white, black, asian, hispanic, etc. They'd have some stupid athletes as well. Kids getting kicked off these teams wouldn't get the notoriety.

dude, kids being ON those teams doesn't get notoriety. why would anyone care if they got kicked off.

'oh, no, sally rottencrotch just got dropped from the field hockey team'

yea, not gonna get a headline.

didn't crowder actually graduate early????

Keven,

But in order to improve the academics you need to pay attention to those sports. If 5 negro athletes get kicked off of the football team for academics, then it's played as racism. If the same players get kicked off as a subset of 15 athletes of varying races getting kicked off teams, then it can be looked at as an indictment of how poorly they learn, or how the school recruited athletes who weren't smart enough to be there in the first place.

I see you have done your research. Channing was an honor student in high school and a member of the National Honors Society. I've interviewed him many of times while working at UF and he has a lot fun with reporters. Trust me, he know's where London is. The University didn't use and UF does a great job with academics and athletes, look at the stats and do some research and stop this lazy crap.

Look, I graduated from UF and also covered Crowder as a sports journalist during his time at UF. Channing is a good kid and a great athlete... one of the best natural linebackers i have ever witnessed... but the guy is a dumbass and no university system is ever going to change that. If it wasn't for his athletic ability he never would have popped up on a college campus in the first place. As it is he left after two years to go pro. Geography, by the way, is usually taught in middle school and high school. So if you want to talk trash, send a letter to North Springs HS (Sandy Springs, Georgia) for giving him a diploma.

You don't learn how to read a map in college, you learn how to read a map in 3rd grade.
