ND Lineman Quits Team, Receives Scholarship Release Without Issue

Notre Dame offensive lineman, Matt Carufel, decided that his boy hood dream of playing football for Notre Dame was actually a real life nightmare and decided to quit in the middle of the season.

He is, at least, the second member of the Irish squad to choose to leave school and run as fast and far as he could from Charlie Weis since the season started.

The other player to do so was Negro QB Demetrius Jones.

The Irish made Jones wait for his release, even going so far as threatening not to release him from his scholarship before finally caving to pressure by concerned media outlets (like this one) to do the right thing.

Carufel, a white lineman, was granted his release without incident and with no problem.

Ty Willingham could not be reached for comment.

Sir, Kevin White is unimpressed with your assertions.

Sir, which Kevin White?

The Notre Dame AD, or the former mayor of Boston?

On second thought...ND being ND and Boston being Boston...doesn't really matter....

i'm surprised someone didn't blame ty for the kid leaving...

actually, i think that is the third guy who left during the season.

golden domers say that the reason ND let the white boys out of their scholarship right away is because they did it the "right" way...

Funny, Jones returning the favor of playing games Weis taught him with Weis' handling of the starting QB situation was the wrong way? All Jones did is what he saw his coach do..

might a suggest a "manumission" label for these Notre Dame posts?

This article is proof that african americans are just as racist as the boys from mississippi.

People like you always go running around LOOKING for racism, then you start complaining and whining. Yeah because your life is so hard now-a-days.

Funny that one can't point out obvious institutional racism unless he was stacked up like cordwood with other humans, bought and sold, beaten and bred, etc. Funnier still that you're the arbiter of these bonafides.

This is just an open-and-shut double standard by Weis, case closed. That program is so fucked.

nois, you forgot about Konrad Reuland transferring during the season this year too. and having no problem of getting his release.

If he was a starting offensive lineman, let him go. In fact, if Atlanta's O-line ever wanted to go back to school, ND would be glad to take them en masse. They would rule in Division I.

Oh, the scholarship. The kid didn't go out of his way to embarass Weis. I would have preferred that, but he may not have had the ready-made financial cushion Jones must have had.

well, the kid did pack his bags and clean out his room before he left...and THEN called Weis to quit...so..

I think not showing up for the bus was the key. If I read the press accounts correctly, Weis had no idea until he didn't show up for the trip to the stadium.

I don't know what went on with the team, but Weis has been consistent with his policy on transfers and most colleges have the same policy - they will not release you to transfer to a school that is on their future schedule. Here is why Reuland had it "easy"?: Reuland intends on transferring to a junior college this year and then transfer somewhere next year when he will be able to transfer anywhere without needing Notre Dame to release him from his scholarship.

Sir, originally Demetrius planned to transfer to Northern Illinois.

Are they on the Domers' schedule????

Nice try tho.

actually he didn't plan to transfer to Northern Illinois. He merely enrolled there in order to take classes. He left the school and then began the process of searching for a program that he believed fit his skill set and eventually found a match with Cincinati. And I don't think it matter what color your skin is, if a white player had pulled the same stunt of just not showing up for the travel bus I would't been keen on releasing him of his commitment either.

Sir, oh.

So, then Cincy is on their future schedule, right?

Cause, originally, you had said that they were just following protocol.

But, now, you say it was personal.

And, if it was personal.

That is pretty unprofessional.

Basically, they had an immature kid do something immature...and they reciprocated.

Weis and ND run a classy program.
