More Notre Dame: The Team Doesn't Even Appreciate The Fans

Fans of the winning impaired ND football team continue to show up to support their underachieving, directionless troops on home Saturdays.

But now, the students are beginning to wonder why:

But that's not what caught me off guard. For years, it's been a Notre Dame tradition for the football team to salute the student body after every home game. You can find a picture anywhere of golden helmets raised in thanks to the student body - win or lose. And this year especially, Coach Weis has really emphasized the relationship between the team and the students. If the relationship is so good, and the team appreciates the fans so much, why didn't they show their appreciation after the game Saturday? What the students got instead was a bunch of dejected football players, hanging their heads and looking at the ground, stumbling into the tunnel and the locker room after ND's alma mater was played.

While the physical beatings absorbed by ND's 'football' squad have been visible each Saturday, now we see the culmination of those beatings manifest in a clear psychological manner.

Let it be known:

We have reached the point at which ND football traditions no longer have meaning to the ND 'football' team.

Go Duke. (ouch. that hurt to say)

you've really reached a new low when the team can't stop feeling sorry for itself long enough to thank the fans for supporting their sorry effort.

although, we might see an even lower low this saturday if Duke wins.

this season has set the irish back 10 years. and they were already 7 years behind the top teams anyway.

the echoes can take a dirt nap.

Duke beat Northwestern, so there's no reason they can't win this rather handily.
And won't that be pretty?

They already forgot some of their other long held traditions, such as "playing like a champion" and "winning," so why not this one too?

GO BLUE! Crush the Buckeyes!

"GO BLUE! Crush the Buckeyes!"

didn't illinois already take care of that?

Yes, Steven A's Cheese Doodles, they did. And it felt great...

But nothing feels better as a Wolverine than to beat Ohio State. It's been a while since I felt that feeling.

I need two things now: (1) a win on Saturday and (2) Les Miles to come coach the next inspiration for another NOIS ode to the white RB, Mr. Sam McGuffie.

Sir, I believe it is blatantly obvious that this whole Notre Dame suckfest is further proof that Jesus was indeed black. He's getting his revenge in the name of the Nubian prince, Tyrone Willingham.

Congratulations NOIS on your third Notre Dame post in three days. The myriad of ESPN "high"lights and articles just haven't been enough for me.

Perhaps seeing how much publicity this team garners even when completely irrelevant is why recruits are lining up to play there.

So desparate are you to fill your readerships craving for all things ND that you've taken to reading their daily student newspaper. Even if the story reports no news other than: Players and students are getting frustrated by a 1-9 football team. Shocking.

It's one thing to criticize the way the team handled the Demetrius Jones situation. It's another thing to beat an irrelevant horse (that everybody's tired of) on a daily basis. Even people who hate Notre Dame can tell when a lazy writer is looking for an easy target.

You rip on Notre Dame more than Bill Simmons praises Boston.

Sir, we accept your criticism.

And we accept the comparison to ESPN. Certainly, with espn and NOIS mentioning ND a few times in one week...it must appear as if ND has a sports media monopoly...it must.

It must.

"Perhaps seeing how much publicity this team garners even when completely irrelevant is why recruits are lining up to play there."

Again, we appreciate your insinuation to the reality that publicity on NOIS is far reaching.

We accept that as truth.

As truth.

"desparate are you to fill your readerships craving for all things ND that you've taken to reading their daily student newspaper."

Actually, we read ESPN Local...which had the link. But, certainly, we understand your anger at our getting information from the internet.

Anger.

We understand.

"It's another thing to beat an irrelevant horse (that everybody's tired of) on a daily basis. Even people who hate Notre Dame can tell when a lazy writer is looking for an easy target."

Yes. Indeed. And sometimes we are blessed when another, even easier target unveils himself.

"You rip on Notre Dame more than Bill Simmons praises Boston."

Hmmm...we'd call you lazy for getting on the internet and busting on Bill Simmons'....but, we are too lazy to bother.

I'm black. You probably wouldn't like me. I'll show ya'll mine if you show me yours.

But yes, it will be pretty.

I laugh at my laziness and apologize for my hostility and lack of perspective. Must be a natural reaction to a headline asking me to feel sorry for ND fans.

I guess its just a slow news week.

(The Marbury post was gold, though.)

OVERRATED!!!!

"OVERRATED!!!!"

Sir, we assume you are referencing UNC's pre-season ranking and their game last night?

Firstly, who cares about pre-season rankings? You haven't heard us ONCE trumpet UNC's #1 ranking or that the overwhelming consensus within the sports media is the UNC is a top contender for the NCAA title.

Not once have we mentioned this.

Clearly, in hoops the preseason polls are fairly meaningless.

We would remind you that Davidson returned all 5 starters from a team that was very good last year.

We also will remind you that Duke will be playing them.

With less talent than UNC has.

Should Duke not win...prepare for your verbal lashing.

you wouldn't survive to talk about it.

"You rip on Notre Dame more than Bill Simmons praises Boston."

Agreed. There needs to be more "rip[ping]" Boston.

and you being a black chick and all....well, that would put me at risk.
