Duke LaCrosse: Extra Year of Eligibility?

Normally, when one thinks of a Duke athletic team demanding special treatment, expecting that a different set of rules apply to them and espousing an arrogant and nauseating attitude; one thinks of coach KKK's fruity cagers.

Well, apparently the holier than thou, we deserve to be treated like the sons of royalty attitude normally excreted by coach KKK has made its way to the lacrosse squad.

The school is asking the NCAA to grant an extra year of eligibility for team members, who played just eight games in 2006 before the university canceled the rest of the season amid rape allegations against three players.

Excuse us?

Let's recap.

Duke University, in show of spineless and heartless capitulation to the possibility of pressure (again, we say possibility) pulled the plug on the lacrosse season. The cowardly and shameful administrators waved the flag of surrender and sold out the men of their university before anyone in the media or beyond was calling for Duke to cancel the lacrosse season.

Yes, Duke's president enacted a strategy straight from the pages of the French Army's battle doctrine. Wave the white flag at the first sign of enemy fire.

Instead of standing by their young men and demanding due process and at least some tangible results from the investigation, Duke chose to indict their own young men. Showing no confidence in the accused players' innocence, the team was treated as pariahs and told they were unworthy to wear Duke uniforms.

Now, in the evil capacity that we expect from a university that is essentially run by the devil on earth, the school has decided that their poor players deserve another year. And that the NCAA should bend its rules to suit them.

The school has reached the semi-finals in this year's NCAA tourney, and obviously feels that next season could be championship caliber if they can get these kids back.

This transparent and ridiculous attempt to manipulate the NCAA into granting them the chance to falsely proliferate future success on the lacrosse field must be stopped. At all costs. This is satan's work. This is the white devil thumbing his nose at the entire country. At athletes and teams everywhere, in every sport.

How dare you Duke!

YOU cancelled your own season.

YOU chose not to demand evidence or due process.

You chose not to believe in these boys.

And now, you want the rules changed so you can benefit from their services for another year.

If these young men have any sense of pride. Any sense of self worth. Any sense of self loyalty (since the university showed them none). Any sense of righteous and warranted indignation. Any ability to clearly understand that the university sacrificed them at the alter of public opinion at the primary opportunity. If these young men can understand this, the only proper action would be this:

Do not play in the semi-finals this season. At the opening of the game, peel off those cloaks of the devil Duke calls uniforms, drop your gloves and sticks and walk off the field.

The university abandoned you.

Now, they want you to play another year?

Have some self respect.

Or, remain a Dukie.

this is the liberal culture fostered in this country...any mere mention of a racist attack has big companies or in this case universities falling to their knees...Dukes reaction was totally a result of this warped culture.

Sir, obviously that is the culture in this country.

Look at the NFL caving in as they try to drive several players who have not been convicted of a thing, out of the league.

There is speculation that Duke terminated the season because they had information that several more similar incidents of similar severity were going to be uncovered. However, coach KKK used his connections to prevent them from ever being leaked.

you try to report speculation as fact...nice job.

Sir, report as fact?

It was described as SPECULATION.

Not fact.

Speculation MEANS it is not fact.

I have to ask in all seriousness.

Are you a special needs individual?

This may be your all time low in reading comprehension on here.

The players didn't choose to cancel the season. If your dream was to play college lacrosse and your season got cancelled for a bogus reason, why wouldn't you want another season? Most likely the last year that any of these players get to play big time athletics. It's about getting a chance to compete again at a high level. Maybe that's why you write about sports and these guys play them.

The last "big time" lacrosse player was Jim Brown at Syracuse and that was 1956. If Thomas Hill and Grant Hill went on tour with with 80s flat tops as a Kid-n-Play tribute band it would be more big time than this Duke lacrosse team. You should have gone to a school with some balls, Dukies. Instead you get what you deserve which is nothing.

Well said! It's not like anything good will ever happen to those corn-fed white boys any more in their lives (/snark)

Uh....the players had their season prematurely and unfairly ended. Don't you think THEY deserve to have what was taken from them?

No, you don't, I guess. Because it's all black and white to you.

Even people who act like assholes have rights in this country, and the Duke lacrosse players basically lost a year of eligibility without due process. The remedy? Give it back to them if they choose to use it.

They WERE falsely accused, remember?

I bet those Jews that run the NCAA will let those white devils do whatever they want

To the dickweed that wrote this... "Uh....the players had their season prematurely and unfairly ended. Don't you think THEY deserve to have what was taken from them?"

Question #1: Did the NCAA take their season away?

Answer: No.

Question #2: Were these assholes blameless in what happened to them?

Answer: No. Unless you choose to ignore the racist taunts reported by neighbors and the vile emails sent by a player.

Tell the assholes to determine value to what they lost and sue their school for it. Dicks.

Sir, we ask you this...

If Pacman Jones is NEVER convicted of anything, will you be demanding that he receive the pay he will lose for this upcoming season?

You know, due process and all?

Didnt think so....

"It's about getting a chance to compete again at a high level."

Sir, the NCAA never took that chance away.

Duke took it away because they didn't believe in these boys.

We think it's sad, too...

Sad that these boys would WANT to play another year for a school that treated them as criminals at the first sign of trouble...

Oh, and..trust us. We played much bigger time college sports than running around with a butterfly net.

"Oh, and..trust us. We played much bigger time college sports than running around with a butterfly net."

Sir,

you are ignorant of the lacrosse culture and the rapidly exploding following behind this sport. If you knew anything about lacrosse, watched any of the two games on ESPN2 today, or plan on watching the final on Monday on ESPN, you would realize this sport is much more than just running around with a butterfly net.

It combines the best aspects of soccer, hockey, football, and basketball - running, stamina, patience, stickwork, hitting, physical defense, set offenses and defenses based on zones, cutting, sliding, help D.

If you watched the second half your hated Duke lacrosse team played against Cornell today, you would realize why lacrosse is not just a sport with a 'butterfly net'. For God's sake, these NBA conference finals have paled in comparison to the Duke-Cornell game played today.

Why would a team that talented, that suffered through ridiculous treatment by the media, government, and as you touch on so succinctly - their university itself - NOT try to have another go at it? As said in these very comments, the only thing these players have proven to have done wrong is, according to a neighbor, yell racist things, and have ONE player on the team send a hate-filled email.

I do not argue that saying racist things is wrong, I think it is a hideous act. Seeing this, I choose to look at it more from the perspective of a few really drunk white rich college kids being assholes. If that's a problem, then, in my experience, most major college athletes, football and basketball included - would probably be guilty of that at one point or another. And since ONE player sent that email, how is the entire team held accountable. I say that player should not be allowed to be re-instated, and the rest should be on a tight leash, as I'm sure they already are - but they have proven to be nothing more than dumb drunk college students, in my opinion.

I say let them play, let the beautiful game of lacrosse flourish, and let the Duke lacrosse team erase the tarnished image the sport has been given by the actions of the very team that is seeking to eradicate them.

Name me a more fitting way, Sir, for this great sport and this talented, though admittedly socially stupid, team to amend its legacy?

DaYankeesWin said...

The Duke Lacrosse players are white, they should be allowed to do whatever they want just because of that. But since they also go to Duke that gives them even more privileges than any of us will ever be used to. I approve giving them an extra year, it's not their fault that their school fell prey to the Jesse Jackson types and caved under pressure.

The last thing any school or company wants to be known for is backing a bunch of white kids who had allegedly raped a black girl. It's not the rape that's the problem, unfortunately, it's the color of skin of all those involved that really ends up mattering. They (Duke) did what they had to do, and now they are trying to right their wrongs.

nation_of_islam_sportsblog said...

"Name me a more fitting way, Sir, for this great sport and this talented, though admittedly socially stupid, team to amend its legacy?"

Sir, it's all well and good.

But the fact of the matter is that the university is the entity that cancelled the season.

The NCAA didn't ask them to.

Jesse Jackson didn't ask them to.

The university chose to do so before facts were known.

Maybe this will to teach the university a lesson.

The lesson that due process MUST be adhered to.

In this internet age, we seem to be allowing the media to dictate guilt before the courts.

Frankly, we can't understand WHY these kids would want to be associated with a university that completely hung them out to dry.

nation_of_islam_sportsblog said...

"They (Duke) did what they had to do, and now they are trying to right their wrongs"

Sir, allowing the university to "right their wrongs" teaches no lesson.

It's very important that these players NOT be allowed an extra year of eligibility.

The university made a conscious choice to abandon the team.

It's sad for the team members.

But the bottom line is that it is the university's team.

And the university didn't stand by the players.

And this isn't black and white.

This is loyalty.

And belief in the ideal of innocent until proven guilty.

The university showed it lacked both.

it combines all these things into a sport played by a bunch of guys who couldn't warm the bench for any other D1 sport.

as the guy next to me in the bar said yesterday after watching these prep school kids toss the ball around for a minute to no avail: "reggie bush would've scored on that play."

Hey Nois, how come you denounce anything written that you perceive to be racist against blacks but allow so many of these anti-white and anti-jewish comments to go through without a peep. I think it is because if you admitted you were a bigot then you couldnt play the victim card anymore...nice job you hateful bastard.

The only reason ESPN even showed that crap was because they felt bad for ripping on those little white racists for weeks; so they broadcast lacross as a pseudo-apology.

Anonymous said...

Maybe some young Negroes watched the broadcast and realized they could easily earn themselves a college scholarship with a jockstrap taped to a broomstick.

They will, of course, have the good sense not to attend the dookkk university.

This website is absurd. You guys hate becuase you can't do it yourself. most of these kids were 2 and 3 sports athletes in high school, could have gone d-1 or 2 in your holier than though sport of College Football, but chose to use it to go to schools where education is actually important.

It's people like "nation of Islam" that lead to racism, not stop it.

Just because you've never seen a brother play lacrosse, doesn't mean it never happened.

"It's people like "nation of Islam" that lead to racism, not stop it."

Nobody needs to "lead" you to racism. If what is said on this blog reinforces your racist notions, maybe you should question the manner in which you are reading it.

yeah just like because you never seen a brother in college not on an athletic scholarship doesnt mean that doesnt happen either...haahaa

Except, of course, that I have seen that.

otherwise, you're right, it is 'just like' my example.

I have seen Negroes excel at lacrosse and academics. Apparently you have not. You could, if you had any idea where to look.

I love how you ask me a question and then answer it yourself. Did I bring up Pacman Jones, or did you?

I'm a big fan of due process for everybody. So, strangely enough, were the Founding Fathers.

jrr42: You're a fucking moron.

You have to appeal to the NCAA to have eligibility restored because they determine eligibility. Not the schools. So whether or not the NCAA took their year of eligibility away is immaterial. That's the court to which you have to appeal.

And no, they weren't blameless. They were assholes, as I said. But, as I also said, and which you seemed to ignore because it doesn't fit your worldview, being an asshole doesn't abrogate your rights as a citizen of the US.

Oh, wait, we're talking about white kids here. White kids can do no right on the Nation of Islam Sports Blog.

Fuck you.

Besides, anytime we share the right answers with you, you get enraged. No matter what we say, you take the opposite view...so, why would we bother opening a can of worms like that?

Sir, hahaha!

Good one.

Let's see. Lacrosse kids are generally about 175-200 pounds.

That would translate to receiver or DB in football.

And, these are white kids.

HAHAHAHA.

Good stuff. Keep it coming.

Sir, it that is the case, then say it...

Say, "the NFL needs to wait to see what the courts say before they ban Pacman".

Notice, we don't have a problem with Chris Henry being banned. The courts took action against him.

Ooops, there goes one of your "theories".

So, say it..."let Pacman play"!!!

Say it.

We love you and want to help you overcome you ignorance.

Don't fuck us.

Let us help you.

Exactly right. I had no idea Duke had so much power in the NCAA as to force the governing body to give the kids another season so that the kids wouldn't sue the pants off Duke.

As to you NOIS-haters: NOIS may not get it right every time, but he stays true to his style, and he's right much more than he should be if this really were a fair and balanced country. I look forward to the day when the worst offense NOIS has to complain about is, say, not enough blacks participating in figure skating, and I'm sure NOIS does too. But it's not here yet, and won't be anytime soon.
