Harry Carson: Setting the Right Example

We've all read the bickering between Mike Ditka and Joe DeLamielleure and NFLPA leader Gene Upshaw. Whitlock wrote a column on it.

While Ditka and DeLamielleure get all the press, sound bites and photo ops; a certain Hall of Famer has been out actually doing something. Without all the hoopla.

Harry Carson, NFL Hall of Famer and proud graduate of HBCU South Carolina State University, has quietly and dignifiedly been doing what Ditka and DeLamielleure have so far been failing to do. Lead an initiative focused on getting real results, not headlines.

While former Bears coach Mike Ditka, NFL Players Association executive director Gene Upshaw and Hall of Fame guard Joe DeLamielleure trade threats and grab headlines about who's to blame for the struggles of many former players, Carson chooses to remain above the fray and address the situation the way he once did as a Hall of Fame linebacker with the Giants: by speaking softly, by working hard, by being a leader.

We commend the wonderful example this proud HBCU graduate is setting for the other men that would be leaders of this movement.

To quote the article: No excuses. No name-calling. No nonsense.

This is an example we can all emulate, no matter the goal. We are proud that we can righteously and truthfully offer our blog as an example of how knowledge can successfully be proliferated by following these very principles.

Thank you, Brother Carson, for furthering the ideals of NOIS as you show former players like Ditka and DeLamielleure the proper way to achievement.

Harry Carson was a leader on the field and now off the field. The price he has had to pay due to multiple head traumas is truly sad. Gene Upshaw is the worst players union leader in all of sports and sometimes to get things rolling you have to call him out on it with public displays such as the ones Ditka has used. Carson, Ditka and others are all working for the same goal..to get better protection for injured former players. The sad thing in all this is Gene Upshaw seemingly not giving a damn about these men. The problem is Upshaw and his willingness to turn his back on his own such as Harry Carson.

Good shout out for SC State...

Good work for the league's retirees.

HAHAH.

Listen, you show your racist tendencies, yet again.

First of all, anytime a black player "acts up" or does something to bring attention to an issue, YOU have called them trouble makers and said they don't know how to behave. Old white guys do it and it's good to gooooooooooooo...

Second, Upshaw's job is to represent the interest of the PLAYERS. The current players that are in the union.

How is it justifiable for the old whities to call out UPSHAW in this case?

The only justifiable thing would be to call out the current players and tell THEM to get on Upshaw's case.

You are a pure clown.

show me one example when i have knocked a black player for bringing positive attention to an issue..immediately you start yelling racist. I brought no issue of race into this posting yet again and again an ignorant fool such as yourself has read racism. I applauded Harry Carson..i did not knock him. Ditka and the others are trying to do the right thing for older players who laid the groundwork for a league that now generates billions. Upshaw is nothing more than a lap-dog for the commissioner..he always has been.

Again with no racial provocation you throw around terms like "old whities"...your racism is disgusting. It is my opinion that the union can do more for older players so they dont end up homeless without the ability to pay hospital bills...upshaw is the head of the union but instead he threatens physical violence against those who question him.
You are a racist scum...Ditkas actions are not to just benefit older white players but to help ALL retired players who are suffering due to injuries sustained while playing. sir you are drowning in hate...drop to your knees and give allah twenty.

Sir, one example...how much time do you have?

Reread your previous posts. They are ALL examples of your racism.

it's funny, martin, this guy thinks that because for the last couple of days he has been carefully coding and using careful language in his posts (actually, he is trying to bite NOIS's style, but he ain't smart enough or a good enough writer to pull it off)...he thinks that all his posts for the last month don't count and we all forgot about them.

i mean, he can call us all the names he wants. but we DO remember...LOL.

this has been fun watching nois expose this guy as a racist AND destroy him verbally and intellectually.

censored must be a masochist.

See, a NORMAL person, when called a racist, just kinda shrugs their shoulders and says "yeah, whatever". But a RACIST, well, when you call one out, the first thing they do is show the 5 things they have done in their lives that AREN'T racist. ANd then pretend the 1000 that prove they are never happened.

nice try "censored", you can't undo what you already did by pretending to be a false version of NOIS.

Pathetic.

i haven't posted before. but have been reading for awhile.

it is spot on of those of you that point out how censored has changed his "voice" to try to sound like an alter ego of sorts (speaking in terms of the logic he tries to use) to NOIS. he used to just come out and say what he had to say. and didn't seem to care that it was overtly racist.

it seems you guys have broke him. he seems to actually care that you have called him a racist and has changed his "voice". the sad thing about it is that he tries to mimick NOIS, who is a master writer at this. and it just makes censored's shortcomings all the more obvious.

btw, i am a white guy who disagrees with most of the noise (ha ha, think about it) that comes out of "censored". i wish he would just go back to being an open racist and stop trying to be clever about it. NOIS just makes him look stupid.

(oh and "censored", before you pick apart my spelling or whatever...i don't bother with caps when i post comments...cause...you know, who cares)

thank you for admitting i am using NOIS style of coding racism...it is what i have said is going on the whole time...you all are not looking for an end to racism...just an outlet to bash white people...pathetic.

dont you get it...saying that "btw, i am a white guy" doesnt endear you to the readers of this blog...you are just another "cracker" or "YT" to them...they hate you for your skin color and then cry foul when it is done to them. Next time try "btw, i have alot of black friends" then they will all be in your corner.

i said you bite his style of writing. i NEVER said he used codes for racism.

LOL

you can't take what i say and pretend it means what you want it to.

it don't work like that.

Sir, the beauty of what you have pointed out:

i. in "censored"'s misguided interpretation of our work on the blog as being code for racism; he just admitted that HE is using coded language to mask his own racism by incorrectly thinking he was mimicking us.

ii. there is no denying this. he just admitted it.

Well done, malcolm.

Sir, we appreciate your readership.

And it is wonderful to know that there exist white readers out there that don't come here with the intention of forcing their racist ideals upon us. That there are readers with open minds that attack using defensive measures (yes, that is what some do) by trying to turn every post we make into a race game.

Please, we invite you to keep interjecting your thoughtful eminations.

Allahu Akhbar.

Every time I've clicked over here, sirs, I start by reading some interesting thought provoking material. It quickly turns into a (Boring)game of "Who's the Racist?"

A racist is...Someone who believes in race.

Agreed, and I'm guilty of participating. It's alternately too important or too ridiculous to avoid.

"A racist is...Someone who believes in race."

Disagreed. This oversimplified definition of racism is convenient for white America because it applies to virtually everybody on Earth.

Defining racism as such makes the word useless, so naturally this is the definition encouraged by the media.

Now, where did you get this definition of racism?

Congratulations. He is a wonderful representative and spokesman for NOIS.

Well done.

if these old coots had done a better job managing their money, maybe it wouldn't be such an issue?

everyone talks about how sad it is that Mike Webster ended up a homeless bum offerring BJ's for donuts under a bridge.

but they never bring up the fact that the guy made HORRIBLE business deals and lost all his money BEFORE his mushy brain conked out on him.

I used to love when Harry would put one of those overcoat things on to hide and sneak over and get the gatorade bucket and dump it on Parcells...and Parcells would get all mad and they would look at each other knowling...with a certain "it's fun when my linebacker gets me all wet" twinkle in their eyes...ahhh, the good old Gints!

couldn't mike webster's horribly mushy brain have something to do with his bad business decisions?

saying "btw, i have alot of black friends" actually translates as "i really don't know any black people at all but that won't stop me from pontificating on race and race relations"

Mack Power said...

sure it could have. but when he completed his first failed venture, he wasn't showing the signs of being punch drunk.

this is a chicken or the egg thing, i suppose.
