Anyone that regularly follows this blog knows how closely we follow auto racing.
We have often said that drivers are possibly the greatest competitors in the world.
Mixing the hand eye coordination of the greatest martial artists with the stamina of a world class ultramarathon runner.
At the same time they are undergoing one of the most demanding tests of physical ability in the world, they must make accurate and split second decisions. Decisions which could lead to victory or loss. Life or death.
To try to compare the intricacies of race car driving with sports that simply rely on pure athleticism is like comparing advanced calculus with multiplication tables.
F1 drivers have long been recognized as the greatest the world has to offer. And, being the most prolific drivers in the world certainly, by default, qualifies them among the greatest athletes in the world.
Sunday saw the contesting of the Canadian Grand Prix. Reknowned throughout the world as a premier auto venue.
This year's winner was Lewis Hamilton. It was Hamilton's 6th consecutive top 3 finish. Hamilton also secured first place in the series standings with his victory.
Hamilton has achieved all this at the tender age of 22 years old.
22 years old. And possibly the greatest athlete in the world!
Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton!

"And possibly the greatest athlete in the world!"
WHAT?! I just beat a horse AND I have to battle the prejuidice that is rampant in the NFL. Lewis beat some other white drivers.
lewis isnt white....
but i like the comparison between white drivers and horses....
And possibly the greatest athlete in the whole world?
Sirs, in F1 it is not as much about the content of your character as it is the quality of your vehicle.
He has a supercharged machine at his controls.
That's not to say as he should not be celebrated, and but calling the young man the greatest athlete in the world is allowing yourself to sink into four-letter networked hyperbole.
If this is the journey that you are taking, sirs, you better start typing in all caps and with exclamatory punctuations.
I am proud to have blazed the trail young Master Hamilton is following.
Brotha needs a better name though. "Lewis Hamilton" should be doing my taxes, not driving a racecar.
"If this is the journey that you are taking, sirs, you better start typing in all caps and with exclamatory punctuations. "
Sir, his mastery of the machinery, coupled with the split second decision making is virtually unmatched.
We understand your tepidity in calling drivers "great" athletes.
And for generations, we'd probably agree.
But, the abilities that Mr. Hamilton brings to the sport demand that all reevaluate their interpretation of what race driving is.
Just as Tiger Woods redefined the definition of "golfer". Mr. Hamilton is laying claim to the sport of driving.
The hard work, commitment and sacrifice made by this talented Brit should be a lesson to all.
And to all of you who dispute the athletic ability of racecar drivers, just ask JR SMITH how easy it is to drive.
Hey NOIS, how is LeBron working out as the new face of the NBA...I would say that seeing Game 1 had the lowest primetime ratings ever your argument that this is who people want to see is quite flawed. More people would tune it to watch michael jordan play a round of golf than watch this guy.
Hamilton was probably driving with a suspended license or no insurance.
"Hamilton was probably driving with a suspended license or no insurance."
at least he wasn't passed out drunk
"And to all of you who dispute the athletic ability of racecar drivers, just ask JR SMITH how easy it is to drive. "
or ask me...although, i DO tend to drive with only one hand on the WHEEL.
"I would say that seeing Game 1 had the lowest primetime ratings ever your argument that this is who people want to see is quite flawed."
Sir, is the lack of ratings an indictment of public disinterest in LeBron, himself?
Or, more probably, is it a manifestation of the perceived lack of challenge that the Cavs provide the Spurs?
Did you watch S.A. Smith's piece prior to the game? He went around SAN ANTONIO, and folks in the TOWN weren't even interested in the game.
Your supposition that somehow the low ratings are based on public rejection of LeBron is completely flawed and poorly thought out. As well as poorly presented.
The public loves LeBron and is clearly demanding that HE be the face of the NBA. This can not be disputed by your racist mental meanderings and your tainted interpretations of prime time ratings.
In the future, if you choose to dispute the realities that are presented here, follow this course:
i. address it on the appropriate thread.
ii. present an actual argument, not just some ridiculously defecated opinion with nothing supporting it but stench, filth and unclean intellect.
Thank you in advance for your future contributions.
Your supposition that somehow the low ratings are based on public rejection of LeBron is completely flawed and poorly thought out. As well as poorly presented.
If the people wanted to watch him play they would tune in..that is the bottom line. HE would be the interest in watching but he doesnt have the same star power of a Nash or Nowitzki. You ask me to base my posts on fact...fact if the public cared about Lebron the biggest games he plays in would not be the lowest in NBA history. People would tune in specifically to see Jordan play and they dont care enough to do the same for Lebron...Sorry NOIS but the public has spoken and you are wrong as usual.
"People would tune in specifically to see Jordan play and they dont care enough to do the same for Lebron"
Sir, the public didn't make Jordan the uberstar he was until he started WINNING.
Case closed!
You have been purged of your insolence and ignorance on this topic.
Let's move on.
Quit being so intellectually insubordinate and face the reality of the situation.
"HE would be the interest in watching but he doesnt have the same star power of a Nash or Nowitzki"
HAHAHA!!!
Nice one!
Ohh....
YOU were, serious???!!!
driving is the perfect "sport" for blacks.
Sir, the public didn't make Jordan the uberstar he was until he started WINNING.
See again you have no fact...the Air Jordan sneaker became the biggest seller in NIKE history several seasons before Jordan won an NBA championship...and unlike Lebron when Jordan reached the NBA finals he did not set all time lows for ratings. So you have been proven wrong again...the people have spoken and nobody really cares about Lebron.
"HE would be the interest in watching but he doesnt have the same star power of a Nash or Nowitzki"
HAHAHA!!!
Nice one!
Ohh....
YOU were, serious???!!!
Just stating fact..if Lebron was so popular and poised to be the face of the NBA, people would watch but with the glorification of the thug culture the popularity of the NBA has gone down the tubes. Deal in facts not your lousy opinion. The only way for the NBA to be saved is to exploit its best players...they happen to be Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki.
Where would Michael Schumaker rank in your top athletes ever? He won this event, the Canadian Grand Prix, 6 times in his last 10 years and finished outside the top 3 only once in his long career. Lewis' recent dominance -- if one win in 6 races is dominance-- would not be possible if Schumaker had not retired last year.
You've never dissed Schumaker, but I am curious on your thoughts on the Michael Jordan of F1.
"You've never dissed Schumaker, but I am curious on your thoughts on the Michael Jordan of F1. "
Sir, to our knowledge, Shoomaker's retirement was hastened by the up and coming Hamilton's predestined dominance.
For years, Jack Nichlaus (sp?) was considered the "greatest" golfer ever.
We all now chuckle at that notion.
Chuckle.
"Lebron"
Sir, we asked you earlier to please alloquot your rectal thinking to the appropriate thread.
If you care to take you "ANALysis" of LeBron to a LeBron thread...we'll happily provide the necessarily remedy for your mental incontinence.
"the glorification of the thug culture the popularity of the NBA has gone down the tubes"
you are a trip.
glorification of the thug culture?
please, the WHITE media is the one "glorifying" it. Trying to scare people. Making it seem synonomous with the league. Pretending that every black dude that has a decent cross over is some type of hip hop ne'er do well.
the only people that equate thuggery with the NBA are people like you. People that WANT to be believe and perpetuate any and every negative pretend stereotype that the media cares to throw their way that degrades the life of blacks.
the low ratings have nothing to do with LeBron and EVERYTHING to do with the sports media predefining that NO ONE would care about this series. For weeks, all we have heard is that a Spurs series with anyone is going to be boring and a waste of time.
It's been forcefed to us.
If you don't think that after the money that NIKE and the NBA has invested in Bron Bron that he isn't going to be the face of the NBA, you are nuts.
And comparing how Jordan's shoes performed twenty years ago..when they had NO competition and were basically CREATING a market for sports clothing...with the highly competitive world of today is a mockery.
LeBron is 22.
Get used to him.
If you don't like him....LEARN to love him!
peace.
Sir, to our knowledge, Shoomaker's retirement was hastened by the up and coming Hamilton's predestined dominance.
for you to write "our knowledge" i believe is an oxymoron. You continue to prove not only your lack of social knowledge but of your continued lack of sports knowledge. And I agree that Asians everywhere should be proud of how Tiger Woods represents them on the golf course.
"LeBron is 22."
let's see
when i was 22 I was a rookie
and got swept by the Bucks in the first round
started the next season by breaking my foot
didn't play again until I was 23
so LeBron ain't doin' too bad
and motorcycle racers are actually the best athletes!
go Bubba!
"the Air Jordan sneaker became the biggest seller in NIKE history several seasons before Jordan won an NBA championship"
that is kind of a BULLSHIT statement.
Nike was doing crappy when they intoduced Air Jordans. So, saying that they were the biggest sellers in NIKE history at that time is like saying they were the prettiest girl at the Ugly Prom.
The shoes and the company did not become a full flegded juggernaut until Jordan started winning championships and slam dunk titles.
After AJII, Jordan was ready to drop the deal. Sales were not good.
So, please. Before you go pretending you know things, get clue.
the low ratings have nothing to do with LeBron and EVERYTHING to do with the sports media predefining that NO ONE would care about this series. For weeks, all we have heard is that a Spurs series with anyone is going to be boring and a waste of time.
Well on this blog there are alot of references to ESPN and how it dominates what we think about athletes and sports. ABC owns ESPN and can basically force feed us the hype for the NBA finals 24/7. If you watched ESPN NEWS last night they were still trying to tell us that a competitive game was going on after halftime. The problem isnt with the level of hype for the series..it is just that Lebron does not have the same charisma as other stars. This is just proven by how bad the ratings are. We arent talking about just low ratings...these are record lows. That is the truth and the people have spoken. Lebron is a modern sports star who has soiled their image by having children out of wedlock...that is why mainstream america doesnt care much about this series.
"for you to write "our knowledge" i believe is an oxymoron."
Sir, there is no oxy in your moron.
Oh, and Earl Woods said to go to hell.
Nike was doing crappy when they intoduced Air Jordans. So, saying that they were the biggest sellers in NIKE history at that time is like saying they were the prettiest girl at the Ugly Prom.
They outsold many of the shoes of bigger shoe companies at the time and put NIKE on the map.
The shoes and the company did not become a full flegded juggernaut until Jordan started winning championships and slam dunk titles.
Jordan won slam dunk titles before and after he won championships..so you prove my point that winning a championship is not what lifted Jordan to superstar status..he was already there.
"Well on this blog there are alot of references to ESPN and how it dominates what we think about athletes and sports"
i said SPORTS MEDIA...and that is more than just ESPN.
you are so limited in your thinking.
"Lebron is a modern sports star who has soiled their image by having children out of wedlock...that is why mainstream america doesnt care much about this series."
Sir, Tom Brady scoffs at your theory.
"They outsold many of the shoes of bigger shoe companies at the time and put NIKE on the map.

look at wikipedia. YOU are wrong about the sales. you are making shit up, YT.
you wanna get technical?
jordan won his first "title" in '82...so there you have it....he had a basketball championship BEFORE he ever sold a sneaker.
wrap your lil lips on deeeeez nuts.
you lose.
biatch!!!
"Lebron is a modern sports star who has soiled their image by having children out of wedlock...that is why mainstream america doesnt care much about this series."
Sir, Tom Brady scoffs at your theory.
They are in the same disgusting boat...deal with it.
"They are in the same disgusting boat...deal with it. '
if that is true, lets see you admit that Tom Brady is part of the thug life that is causing Goodell to have to regulate in the NFL...
"They are in the same disgusting boat...deal with it."
Sir, Matt Leinhart scoffs at your theory.
look at wikipedia. YOU are wrong about the sales. you are making shit up, YT.

jordan won his first "title" in '82...so there you have it....he had a basketball championship BEFORE he ever sold a sneaker.
First of all the fact that you use wikipedia as a reliable source of info proves you are a dope..i mean is Sinbad still dead??
And a slam dunk title or college title is not an NBA title you moron. That was my point...there was a point made on this blog that Jordan did not become a superstar until he won an NBA championship...that is clearly not true...and you have proven that ...so thank you.
wrap your lil lips on deeeeez nuts.
And sir i will not..i do not approve of your homosexual ways...redeem yourself....I mean you must face alot of bigotry being black and gay.
"They are in the same disgusting boat...deal with it."
Sir, Matt Leinhart scoffs at your theory.
Lets not get into this...i mean probably about 80 percent of NBA players are bastard children.
"They are in the same disgusting boat...deal with it. '
if that is true, lets see you admit that Tom Brady is part of the thug life that is causing Goodell to have to regulate in the NFL...
Sir if they banished every NFL player who had a kid out of wedlock they wouldnt be able to field a single team.
"Lets not get into this...i mean probably about 80 percent of NBA players are bastard children. "
Sir, Brian Urlacher scoffs at your theory.
"for you to write "our knowledge" i believe is an oxymoron."
Sir, there is no oxy in your moron.
Oh, and Earl Woods said to go to hell.
Oh please if you ever been to a golf course or driving range you would know it was the asian in Tiger that makes him a great golfer.
"Lets not get into this...i mean probably about 80 percent of NBA players are bastard children. "
Sir, Brian Urlacher scoffs at your theory.
There you go...you got your one short list and use it over and over..you are a joke....all i said was that michael jordan and lebron should be mentioned too when you are making that list.
"there was a point made on this blog that Jordan did not become a superstar until he won an NBA championship"
so, you think Jordan would be THE MAN if he never won a title.
HAHA.
And his shit did not reach astronomic proportions UNTIL he started winning.
The fact that he won titles, AND became considered the greatest lead to spinning AJ's off onto their own section of NIKE. It led to a whole clothing line.
please. you just sound stupid at this point.
take your honkey noise back to suburbia and pretend you know a thing about Jordan, Nike or basketball.
besides, nois say the point of this post was to congratulate lewis hamilton on wiping the track with YT drivers, anyways.
you ain't got nothing to say on that, so you try and turn it into racist stuff about the NBA.
"There you go...you got your one short list and use it over and over..you are a joke....all i said was that michael jordan and lebron should be mentioned too when you are making that list.'
Sir,
i. you never said THAT.
ii. it's OUR list. don't try to impose your racist views on us.
"Oh please if you ever been to a golf course or driving range you would know it was the asian in Tiger that makes him a great golfer."
we agree 1000000%
this anonymous dude is unreal! for weeks he has been the victim of NOIS bukkake...and he keeps coming back.
Tell the truth NOIS, it HAS to get boring mentally raping this guy.
It has TO!
ii. it's OUR list. don't try to impose your racist views on us.
No i should just allow you to spew your racist garbage. You dont defend with fact. Fact...nobody was watching Lebron...nobody cares.
besides, nois say the point of this post was to congratulate lewis hamilton on wiping the track with YT drivers, anyways.
you ain't got nothing to say on that, so you try and turn it into racist stuff about the NBA.
Wait so you make racist posts against whites but i am trying to turn it into a racist issue? hmm funny how a dimwit like yourself reacts. My post about Lebron was not racist in any way....NOIS said it is clear that Lebron is who people want to see and is poised to be the face of the NBA...the facts dont bear that out as not too many people cared enough to watch him play in the biggest game of his career to date. He downplayed the accomplishments of superstar white athletes in the NBA..HIS posts are the bigoted ones...i merely deal in fact.
"No i should just allow you to spew your racist garbage. You dont defend with fact."
Sir, what racist garbage?
We pointed out long ago that the likes of Brady and Leinhart were of morally objectionable character and were provided with protection and propogation of false images of their moral worth by the mainstream white media to perpetuate their status in an effort to continually provide them with constant acceptance by the white public.
That isn't racist.
What's racist is to inappropriately demand that we include Jordan or LeBron on our list.
The white media has made every effort to expose and cause affront to the images of both men.
We feel no reason to add to the dogpile.
Additionally, our original list specifically made mention of NFL QB's. Neither man is one.
It would be intellectually impure of us to add Jordan or LeBron to a list of Qb's. It just doesn't make sense.
The only racist act perpetuated in this discussion is the demands from a representative of the white majority that we include Negro basketball players on a list of white QB's.
Clearly, our list of white, morally corrupt QB's hit a nerve.
And you attempt to wash over this exposure of the thug life of the white NFL QB's by pouring the indescretions of the greatest basketball player of all time and a young up and coming superstar that has not yet had time to tie the legal knot of marriage on top of the white players deposing moral bodies.
We've heard of a "white wash", but this is a vile and unhidden attempt at "black washing" the decaying moral fiber of the evolving position of the NFL QB (see our undisputed proof of QB Darwinism) away by racistly trying to turn the issue into something it is not.
Your racist tricks don't work.
It's 2007!!!!
"Wait so you make racist posts against whites but i am trying to turn it into a racist issue? "
nobody brought up race as the MAIN point til you showed your little pink pecker!!!
"He downplayed the accomplishments of superstar white athletes in the NBA"
they downplay themselves when compared to us.
"little pink pecker"
bet it looks like my tail!
"bet it looks like my tail!"
probably smells like it, too
Sirs, good people.
We need to take a breath.
Free speech and the exchange of ideas are important principles.
One of the many benefits of this particular blog is that it is renowned for not only bringing to light the most important issues in sports (and life), but that it also spurs conversation and the exchange of ideas.
The goal of most sports blogs (or most blogs, for that matter) in this day and age is to provide a forum of interaction. A chance to shed light and open peoples' minds.
Of course, that means that when you are a bastion of light, that sometimes "bugs" will be attracted to you.
We just hope that our regular readers understand. And can see. While race relations in this country ARE improving, their is a faultering and diminishing presence of folks out their that center their lives in hatred. That turn every issue at hand into an opportunity to try to degrade anyone that is not of their race.
We made a post congratulating Lewis Hamilton on his accomplishment. Lewis's race wasn't even mentioned in the post.
But, as if on cue, the "klan" shows up to try to turn Lewis' accomplishment into some sort of race war.
Brothers and sisters, as a tribe, we are above this.
The melanin challenged muckraker in our midst thrives on trying to turn our world of sports into his personal realm of hatred.
Don't let him.
Enjoy sports. Enjoy the fascinating and mind expanding debate that our posts provide.
But don't allow yourself to be sucked into the "anonymous" world of hatred and racism that some wish to contaminate us in.
Don't allow your mind to be infested like a fever by the pork eating entities that might try to disparage the future of a people.
Rise above.
Allah is love.
Share him.
guy wins a bloody race and you coronate him as possibly the best athlete in the world?
your bias is unmistakeable. i find it disheartening that apparently there are people out there that not only read your blog; but also take it to heart and share your views.
and i did a search of your blog.
you have NEVER had anything positive to say about race drivers before THIS one won.
That says volumes.
"before THIS one"
Sir, what is THIS code for??

The original post celebrates accomplishment.
Those looking through the window trying to find some way to make it an issue of race ought to see that they are not looking through a window, but rather a mirror.
The issue is not about NOIS or Lewis Hamilton, but rather the rage within you.
Extinguish the rage.
And think uplifting thoughts for the good people of Denver.
"Extinguish the rage."
Sir, on point like a mo'fo'!
We make a post and distinctly, consciously, purposely and unequivocally go out of our way to ensure that NO race is mentioned, insinuated, hinted at,supposed or implied.
Yet one of our friends somehow turns the post and comment thread into a commentary on skin color.
Our blog celebrates life.
Our blog encourages justice.
Our blog resoundingly sings the praises of those that accomplish noteable feats of sport.
Our blog preaches righteousness.
Sometimes, it is better to poke out the eye than to see the hideous reflection of the mirror.
We beg our trouble friend to actively seek the liberation of the blind eye.
"We just hope that our regular readers understand."
Sir, what I do understand that much like the white man spreading TB everywhere as of late, ignorance is spreading through and through on what was once a hallowed and sacred part of the tubes to have enlightened conversations. Sir, dare I say this - I miss the days when Steve from ND was the only white devil who read and posted on this blog. All of this ignorance and backwards thinking has led to this becoming like a segregated white school in 1950s Mississippi - full of indignation while blinded by ignorance, all the while trying to keep their foot on the neck of the negro.
Sir, I and many other faithful readers are still reading, but we are saddled heavy with the yolk of stupidity of 'anonymous' writings.
Lewis Hamilton is currently enjoying one of the best rookie starts in F1 history (I am a long-time F1 fan and know this to be true). I very much look forward to his career, and he deserves the praise you bestow on him. To say, however, that his race had nothing to do with your post is a bit of a stretch. Two dates to keep in mind:
6/10: Lewis Hamilton becomes first black to win F1 race
6/11: NOISb makes first F1 post.
Now there's nothing wrong with this. At all. Just don't play it off as a coincidence.
Hopefully, Hamilton's accomplishments encourage more blacks to pursue F1 dreams. It is an excellent sport, though it--like many fields today-- could use more diversity.
"Now there's nothing wrong with this. At all. Just don't play it off as a coincidence."
Sir, Mr. Hamilton was not a headliner in the news until his win.
Additionally, your chronology of events is inaccurate.
We posted on 6/10, not 6/11.
That changes everything.
"All of this ignorance and backwards thinking has led to this becoming like a segregated white school in 1950s Mississippi - full of indignation while blinded by ignorance, all the while trying to keep their foot on the neck of the negro."
Or like a mainstream university campus in...today, anywhere in the US.
"Or like a mainstream university campus in...today, anywhere in the US. "
o gee, poor negro doesn't fit in to the mainstream.
let me wipe my tears away that the rest of the country could give two steamy shits about hip hop, bullshit complaints and the rest of your junk.
the rest of the country should have to change the way they do everything to fit your needs.
we should all learn ebonics. quit our jobs and become "promoters" or pursue rap careers. drop out of school. wear baggy jeans. get shiney rims. do whatever it takes to mold america into your images.
then, we can just stop making medical advances, economic improvement, we can just ignore science. but, maybe we can have even more music and sports.
America, what a country!!!
